Facial Plastic Surgery for Men

Special considerations must be taken for men who are undergoing facial surgery. Men's facial features and characteristics are quite different from those of women and require specialized techniques to maintain the masculine appearance of certain features, such as the eyes, nose, chin, and forehead. For his male patients undergoing facial plastic surgery, Dr. Singer takes all of these issues into consideration when creating a personalized treatment plan.

Eyelid Surgery

Eyelid lift (blepharoplasty) enhances the appearance of your eyes by eliminating excess skin and/or fat to smooth the eyelids. Eyelid lift can be performed on the upper eyelids, lower eyelids, or both lids, depending on your specific needs.

Facelift

For his male patients, this plastic surgery procedure is one of the most popular and satisfying options. Facial fillers, such as Restylane®, are excellent alternatives to male plastic surgery to enhance your facial features and help fill in any creases or lines on your face for a temporary enhancement. The most common area for men is the nasal-labial folds (lines running down the cheek). Restylane® is safe and is made of a naturally occurring substance that binds water to cells. Other non-surgical options include Radiesse®, Sculptra®, JUVEDERM® Injectable Gel, Perlane® and microfat grafts.

Liposuction

Liposuction is very popular among men who wish to remove excess fat around the waist or flanks, under the chin, or to remove male breast tissue that results from a condition known as gynecomastia. Many of these areas are resistant or impervious to diet and exercise. Men’s skin tends to retain elasticity longer than a woman’s does, increasing the chances that liposuction alone will be able to treat these specific areas without the need for further procedures.

Male Breast Reduction for Gynecomastia

Men who feel self-conscious about their abnormally large breasts (gynecomastia) often are reluctant to appear in bathing suits or participate in sporting activities without wearing loose fitting shirts to hide their chests.

Gynecomastia is derived from the Greek words to describe a condition that makes men's breasts appear enlarged or "woman-like." It may affect both breasts, or occasionally, just one. There are a variety of reasons for male breast over-development, but in the vast majority of cases there is no known cause.

This abnormal appearing chest contour can be improved with male breast reduction surgery. The results of the procedure are significant and permanent. The benefits of male breast reduction are not only physical – producing firmer, flatter, more masculine chest contours – but emotional as well as self-esteem is many times improved. This corrective procedure, however, is not a replacement for diet and exercise for the patient who is significantly overweight.

Male Breast Reduction Procedure

Removal of the fatty and glandular tissue of the breast which creates the abnormally full appearance can usually be achieved through liposuction alone, leaving only small inconspicuous scars. Rarely, in extreme cases with poor elasticity of the skin, larger incisions to redrape the skin may be necessary.

The male breast reduction procedure is typically performed on an outpatient basis. The surgery can be performed in the hospital or at our center, depending on your general medical condition. If the surgery is performed at our center, Dr. Singer may wish to have you transferred to the hospital after surgery for a planned overnight stay. Frequently, other breast sculpting procedures are performed in conjunction with male breast reduction. These procedures include the reduction of large areolae (colored areas around the nipples), the correction of inverted nipples, and the reduction of overly prominent nipples.
