There are many breast surgery options available today that can help women achieve a more feminine physique, as well as help men feel more confident by creating a more masculine appearance. At his La Jolla, San Diego practice, Dr. Singer performs breast augmentation, breast lift, and breast reduction. He will customize your breast surgery procedure to fit your needs and desired outcome.
Those who benefit from breast augmentation (enlargement) surgery are typically women with breasts that are small, unequal in size, or sagging due to age, as well as women whose breasts are markedly smaller after pregnancy.
When the breasts are recontoured and enlarged with an implant, women often experience a renewed sense of their own femininity and a substantial increase in their self-confidence. Breast implants are small pliable rubber silicone shells which are filled with sterile salt-water solution (saline) or silicone-gel. Ideally, breast augmentation surgery, also called augmentation mammoplasty, lasts for a lifetime. No one, however, can guarantee the life cycle of an implant, so it may not be a one time surgery.
Other breast-sculpturing procedures can be performed in conjunction with breast augmentation. These include breast lift, reduction of large areolae (colored area around the nipples), correction of inverted nipples, enlargement of small nipples, and reduction of overly prominent nipples.
Younger women will be pleased to know that since the implant is placed behind their own breast tissue, or behind the muscle in back of the breast tissue, the nipples may still function and allow for nursing.

Breasts may sag for many reasons. Even young women can have sagging breasts because of pregnancy, weight loss, or the body's natural predisposition. As sagging takes place, the skin surrounding the breasts begins to stretch, and no amount of exercise or creams will correct the problem. It is a source of unhappiness to many women, and if it distresses you, corrective breast lift surgery is the only way to improve this condition.
The results of a breast lift vary from person to person. Please remember that the aging process continues after surgery. Younger women will be pleased to know that the nipple generally remains functional after breast lift surgery, and allows for nursing.
Often, other breast surgery procedures are performed in conjunction with a breast lift. These include reduction of excessively large areolae (colored areas around the nipples), correction of inverted nipples, or reduction in size of overly prominent nipples. Breasts that are unequal in size can also be made more symmetrical. If the breasts are small, breast augmentation can be performed at the same time.

Women who have overly large breasts do not need to be told of the discomfort they suffer. Back and neck pain all too often accompany disproportionately large breasts. It is also difficult to find attractive clothes that fit properly. The rubbing motion of the breasts against the chest can cause skin irritation, while the bra straps gouge into the shoulders.
The woman who opts for breast reduction (reduction mammoplasty) generally feels like a new person after surgery. Her posture is improved. She feels better and looks slimmer. Often, she develops a new confidence in herself.
For many patients, breast reduction is partially covered by medical/health insurance.
The surgery can be performed in the hospital or at our center, depending on your general medical condition. If the surgery is performed at our center, Dr. Singer may wish to have you transferred to the hospital after surgery for a planned overnight stay.
Frequently, other breast sculpting procedures are performed in conjunction with a breast reduction, including reduction of large areolae (colored areas around the nipples), correction of inverted nipples, and reduction of overly prominent nipples. In addition, breasts that are unequal in size can be made more symmetrical. It is important to know that some women may be unable to nurse after breast reduction surgery. .

Men who have abnormally large breasts, called gynecomastia, can also benefit from breast reduction surgery. Removal of the fatty and glandular tissue of the breast which creates the abnormally full appearance can usually be achieved through liposuction alone, leaving only small inconspicuous scars. Rarely, in extreme cases, with poor elasticity of the skin, larger incisions to redrape the skin may be necessary. The procedure is typically performed on an outpatient basis. Dr. Singer uses techniques to achieve a natural, masculine appearance. Most men who have undergone breast reduction report a boost in their self-esteem and confidence.
